This year 2015 has witnessed a complete change in the lives of a lot of little girls and women. The project launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi known as “beti bachao beti padhao” is solely focused on the empowering of girl child. This has been creating waves throughout the nation. This major inter-ministerial initiative taken up by the government, brings together ministries, institutions and also the civil societies, has not yet been able to bring a drastic change, but the results are definitely positive. The scheme shall have a focused intervention and multi section action within 100 districts having low Child Sex ratio.

Effective in maintaining sex ratio

The village that can succeed in maintaining the balanced sex ratio, shall be awarded with an amount of 1 crore. This strong incentive shall not only enhance the motivation for maintaining a balanced child sex ratio, but at the same time, it will generate the consciousness among individuals regarding the respect for a girl or a woman. According to Finance minister Arun Jaitley, the government shall focus on the campaigns for sensitizing the citizens of the nation for the issues and concerns of women and girl child. The process needs to begin early, thus the school curriculum needs to have a specific chapter on the subject of gender equality.

Two schemes have already been launched by our PM in Haryana, a state that comprises of the lowest child sex ratio in our country. The campaign shall be initially implemented within 100 districts that include 12 districts in Haryana and throughout the country where the sex ratio is poor. It cannot be denied that such a discrimination against girl child, shall not only harm the mindset and balance of the present generation, but at the same time, it will have terrible impact on the coming generations.  The doctors are urged to shun female foeticide.

Contributions by the government

For assisting this good cause, the financial figures include, a 50 crore scheme for safety within public road transport, also an amount of 150 crore shall be spent by the Ministry of Home affairs for the enhancement of safety of women within large cities. There has been a proposal for setting up the Crisis Management Centers this year, within all districts of Capital, Delhi. The centers shall be set up in all the private and government hospitals. The major factors that have come out as a result of workshops in Delhi, Chandigarh and Guwahati, by the district collectors, suggest that, more strict anti dowry laws, inhibiting the child marriage, emphasis on educating a girl child and finally economic incentives are necessary.

What else needs to be done?

The facts that need to noted is, only the allotment of funds shall not work, the laws need to be amended, vigorous punishment should be given to the culprits responsible for sex discrimination and sex selective abortions. The objectives of “beti bachao beti padhao” Yojana needs to have a connection with the society at large which will make the citizens much more aware. The campaigns have been boosting the morals of people and if you are looking for results, a dedicated effort is necessary clubbed with financial support.

According to PM Modi’s statements made in a speech during the launch of “beti bachao beti padhao” Yojana, there are some associated problems in our society, for instance, people are more concerned about the marriage expenses, dowry, and discriminations in upbringing of a girl. These issues need to be eradicated so that individuals including parents become much more responsible regarding the duties in the upbringing of a girl. The issues need to be dealt in such a way that future parents are encouraged in a positive way.
