Workshop for Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme

Prime Minister Shree Narendra Modi had started the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme in 2015 to spread the awareness of the importance of a girl child and her life. In a recent event Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi has conducted a workshop encouraging the scheme and declared some moves to take the scheme in grass root level. She has proposed that women police and NGOs should contribute to this scheme and manage things in remote areas as well.

Workshop for Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme

The scheme Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) was launched to encourage people to have girl child, to boost up girl education and prevent underage girl marriage. In regard to extent the scheme on 25th July 2016, an orientation workshop has taken place in New Delhi where women and child development ministry has proposed to seek contribution of the local people, key stakeholders, NGOs and other local authorities to supervise the implementation of the scheme in a proper way.

Initiatives under the Workshop

  • According to the minister of women and child development, Smt. Maneka Gandhi, to implement the scheme properly local officials and champions should take the responsibility on their shoulder. By local officials she meant local women police officers, NGOs, key stakeholders, local renowned people, popular faces and high authorities of the districts and remote areas.
  • The women police force will be allocated in several areas to monitor the girl child birth, no underage marriage, girl education and also the proper amenities available to girls in their schools and so on. The authorities should take care of the rules under the scheme and implementations of them in a proper way.

Implementation and Other Interventions

The scheme BBBP has started in 100 districts under 11 different states. All the state governments have started working on this scheme since it has launched in the year 2015. The response is also said to be good enough as well. After this orientation workshop the ministry has decided to implement the scheme in grass root level with the help of local officials.

In Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana several other initiatives have taken by the state government to encourage the scheme. The moves like celebration on the birth of girl child, inspection visits, unregistered USG units sealing, oath taking ceremony, showing birth stats in Guddi Gudda boards and much more.

Objective of the Workshop

The main objective of the workshop is to plan out more deeply regarding the issue of child sex ratio. The rate of child sex ratio is too low before the scheme. Though the rate is recovering but still it is much lower than any developed country. The reason behind conducting this orientation workshop is to share the involvement of various state governments in the journey of the scheme.
