“Run Bhuumi” takes inspiration from “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao”

‘Run Bhuumi’ is the first ever movie for Prashant Singh Rathod’s as a director. The director says that he was motivated by the government initiative of “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao”. The campaign was launched by Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi. Rathod has the experience of working with famous filmmakers like Sanjay Gupta and Anees Bazmee, as an editor. The trailer of the film was launched in New Delhi on Thursday, 24th September, 2015. The trailer was launched by ‘Rangeela’ famed Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar. Many notable political personages were also present in the launch of the film’s trailer which is based on women empowerment.

‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign is dedicated to the welfare of the women, preventing the social discrimination based on gender, reducing the incidence of female foeticide and increasing the overall safety of the women in the country. The trailer launch of the movie was organized by All India Technical and Management Council (AITMC) which is also supporting the movie. AITMC is a not for profit organization with a focus to create a conducive environment for the growth of entrepreneurship and employment.

“Run Bhuumi”, is a stirring tale of a girl named Bhuumi, who despite being faced by many challenges and problems fight to achieve her goals. The target audience for the movie is the students. The director says that to give an authentic feel to the movie, it was important to cast a non-professional as the protagonist (played by Himani Attri). He further adds that as the movie is about an ordinary girl, having a star cast couldn’t have justified the script of the movie. The locations where the movie was shot were in Himachal Pradesh.

Currently there are attempts to make the move tax free in Rajasthan. It has already achieved the tax free status in the states of Haryana and Punjab. He also says that the movie is not intended to be profitable and commercial. Instead, they want the audiences to appreciate the role of the government in the empowerment of the women and realize that it is not only the government’s job, but their responsibility as well, to empower today’s women. The budget of the movie was somewhere around rupees one and half crore. The movie is set to release on 30th October, 2015.

Himani Attri, who is playing the protagonist, says that she feels privileged to have the chance of being a part of the movie. She further sheds light on the role of Bhuumi by saying that Bhuumi is a runner who participates in a cross-country race because she has to earn money for the treatment of her ailing brother.






Actress Urmila Matondkar says that the trailer of the movie touched her heart. She further elaborates that there are only a few events with a cause that are close to the heart and which makes one feel the need to support the cause. She further adds that though she has an elder brother, in her family, the birth of a girl child is celebrated. She says that as we live in a society where the women are worshipped as goddesses, she feels sad about issues regarding women. She feels grateful for the PM Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders for giving a big platform for the initiatives of women empowerment. She says that women in today’s time are courageous enough to prove themselves at any and every platform.

The event was also held to honor the women from different areas like education, business and media, with certificates for their roles and contribution in making the society. The dignitaries also expressed their personal views on the topic of women empowerment.
